Bart's Bash

Though the forecast looked unlikely, there was a great turnout in Chingford of the King George Sailing Club membership for the annual Bart's Bash charity race to raise funds for the Andrew Simpson Foundation on Sunday 17, September 2017.There was scarcely a puff of wind as the first sailors arrived. A few boats were pulled hopefully out from under their covers and as more sailors arrived the wind filled slightly. A mix of classes (Laser, Enterprise, Solo, Blaze and Wayfarer) and ages lined up for the start and with all underway it was clear that hunting for pockets of pressure and lifts was key on such a patchy day around the triangle-sausage course.Close at first, the fleet was split by a lull at the windward mark on the second lap and from then on the top three dominated the field. Club Commodore Bob Ladell crossed the finish line first in his Blaze, closely followed by Vince Horey in his Solo and Leo Bridger in a Laser Standard. After handicap, Vince Horey was awarded first place, Leo Bridger second and Bob Ladell third."It is heart-warming to once again see such a great turnout of all ages from the King George SC membership for the annual Bart's Bash fundraiser" said Charlie Shearn, Bart's Bash organiser. "Our Club is excited to play our small part in supporting the great work of the Andrew Simpson Foundation and to keep alive the memory and enthusiasm of Andrew Simpson. I am very grateful to our membership for giving so generously."

Solo Open Rescheduled

After waiting for as long as possible for the forecast to pick up, we have decided to postpone the Solo Eastern/Thames Valley Event until Sat. 16th Sept. The first Race will be at 11.30am with 3 back to back races.Entry fee £15.00.The windless high pressure should have passed over by then, so we hope for good wind and sunny conditions to sail in one the best inland waters in the UK.Notice of RaceSailing Instructions

Laser First Sunday GMT Series concludes at King George

Sunday saw the conclusion of a great winter series where we have regularly seen 15 boats sailing and, despite the poor forecast and a lengthy postponement for the first race, nine Lasers still took to the water in the concluding two races of King George's Laser First Sunday GMT Series. Both were won by Tony Cooper, who took overall victory, followed closely by Leo Bridger and Mo Allen. The racing was followed by prize giving and a well-received fleet lunch.Laser first Sunday has been a resounding success; we can't all sail every week, so we all make an effort on the first Sunday of every month, hence 'Laser First Sunday'. It has had the effect of re-invigorating fleet sailing at KGSC, boosting the number of Lasers on the start line throughout the year. Sailors from other classes have been hiring the club Lasers, or buying their own second boat, to take part in the competition. We also had a boat launching where we broke tradition and launched a new members boat with a bottle of port! The BST series starts on 02-Apr-17 on the best sailing in North London. www.kgsc.org.uk
