Let's start with the basics:
No dogs are allowed on site, with the exception of assistance dogs.
KGSC is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). Please check to see if you vehicle meets the emission and safety standards here. If not, you will need to pay here.
Those under the age of 18 should be accompanied on site by a parent or guardian. They must not be left unattended.
On the pontoons and banks of the reservoir you must wear a buoyancy aid.
The exception is if you are a windsurfer wearing a harness with adequate buoyancy (note, you must be over 18).
First Aid kits are located in the galley and race box. Please ask for immediate assistance if needed. - We also have a cardiac defibrillator located inside the race box. (Note, the entry code is the same as the changing room code).
Once you have dropped off your kit - Please park vehicles on the back in the car park; this applies to windsurfers, foilers, SUP boarders and dinghy sailors.
In addition if you see a near miss or a hazards please let us know, near-misses are a subset of incidents where no one got hurt, by reporting we will keep improving. The accident and incident reporting book can be found in the galley.
Heading out on the water
You must always have a buddy on the water.
Please take care walking up and down the banks, especially when carrying kit.
Be realistic about your own experience and capabilities – it is better to play it safe than to over-estimate your skills. If in doubt seek information from more experienced members and discuss your sailing or windsurfing experience.
Please consider the launching and recovery of your craft in onshore and offshore conditions prior to going afloat.
Be aware of how you or your buddy could access the powerboat if needed.
If you are unsure, please do not go out in conditions exceeding force 6 (24knots/28mph/44km/h) less for inexperienced. Hire boats may not be used in conditions exceeding 20 knots.
Mast head floats area available if you wish to borrow (if using hired craft).
Look after your equipment, follow instructions for safe launching and landing, watch and anticipate other users avoiding collisions, or damage wherever possible.
Entry and exit to the water for windsurf/wingfoil should be made through the mats where possible.
Mats should be set to allow some secure footing in the water – if not please move these up and down to accommodate.
Lightning - Get off the water immediately if you see lightning. You must wait a minimum of 30 minutes from the last flash of lightning before re-entering the water.
Please do not SUP in winds exceeding 15 knots offshore.
Sailing area
The entire bowl of King George V is open to sailing, windsurfing, wing foiling and SUP.
Be mindful of the outlet pipes in the South East corner. Please maintain 50m distance away from the outlet pipes.
Club racing takes place on Sundays throughout the year and also on Thursday evenings from April to August. Those racing will be using the marks, numbered 0-14, out of courtesy please keep clear of those.
Training also utilises the numbered marks as well as moveable marks. Please keep clear, particularly as those are not likely to have a complete knowledge of the rules of the roads.
Please abide by the rules of the road when sailing at all times.
Awareness of other users and craft
There are many different types of craft using the water each with its own style of sailing and manoeuvrability - marine awareness is important. Some craft that are fast and can be difficult to manoeuvre, its best to give everyone plenty of room.
Foiling boats and windsurfers - fast and quiet.
Trapezing boats - fast and difficult to manoeuvre give plenty of room
Wingfoilers fall off and have a large splash area – foil and kite go in opposite directions
Racing - be aware of club launching area and racing on water at peak race time.
Stand Up Paddle-boarding - SUPs are slow
